  1. ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮ ਖਜਾਨਾ ॥੪॥੨੭॥੭੮॥

    O’ Nanak, I have attained the treasure of the Naam.

  2. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

  3. ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥

    One who develops a close relationship with the Master-God,

  4. ਭੋਜਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਈ ॥੧॥

    because of the unlimited food of Naam, he remains spiritually satiated.

  5. ਕਛੂ ਨ ਥੋਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਉ ॥

    God's devotees never run short of anything.

  6. ਖਾਤ ਖਰਚਤ ਬਿਲਛਤ ਦੇਵਨ ਕਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    They always have enough to use, spend, enjoy, and give to others.

  7. ਜਾ ਕਾ ਧਨੀ ਅਗਮ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥

    One who has the inaccessible God of the Universe as his Master,

  8. ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੀ ਕਹੁ ਕੇਤ ਚਲਾਈ ॥੨॥

    how can anyone stand up to him?

  9. ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਸ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਾਈ ॥

    Seek the refuge of that God,

  10. ਪਲਕ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਲਾਗਹੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥

    by meditating on whom all the eighteen miraculous powers are attained in an instant.

  11. ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥

    O’ my God, the person on whom You bestow Your mercy, he does not lack anything, says Nanak.

  12. ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੨੮॥੭੯॥

    - says Nanak, he does not lack anything. ||4||28||79||

  13. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:

  14. ਜਉ ਮੈ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

    Since the time I enshrined the teachings of my True Guru in my heart,

  15. ਤਬ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

    from that very time my mind attained the supreme peace.

  16. ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈ ਗਣਤ ਬਿਨਾਸਿਉ ਸੰਸਾ ॥

    People imbued with the love of Naam become fortunate;

  17. ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਨ ਭਏ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    all their anxiety and dread are destroyed.

  18. ਜਉ ਮੈ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਚੀਤਿ ॥

    Since the time I have enshrined my God in my conscience,

  19. ਤਉ ਭਉ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ॥੨॥

    O’ my friend, from that very time all my fear has gone.

  20. ਜਉ ਮੈ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ॥

    O’ God, when I sought Your refuge,

  21. ਤਾਂ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਮਨਸਾ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੩॥

    my desires were fulfilled.

  22. ਦੇਖਿ ਚਲਿਤ ਮਨਿ ਭਏ ਦਿਲਾਸਾ ॥

    By gazing upon Your wonderous plays,

  23. ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੨੯॥੮੦॥

    my mind has become assured of Your power and support. O’ God, Your servant Nanak relies on Your support alone.

  24. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:

  25. ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮੂਸਾ ਲਾਜੁ ਟੁਕਾਈ ॥

    O’ brother, every day the mouse (time) is nibbling the rope of life;

  26. ਗਿਰਤ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਮਿਠਾਈ ॥੧॥

    but fallen into the well of Maya, you keep enjoying the sweets (worldly pleasures).

  27. ਸੋਚਤ ਸਾਚਤ ਰੈਨਿ ਬਿਹਾਨੀ ॥

    The night of life passes away, thinking and planning.

  28. ਅਨਿਕ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਚਿਤਵਤ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    One thinks about many aspects of Maya but never meditates on God.

  29. ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਬਾਂਧਿਆ ॥

    Engrossed in Maya, one believes that his stay in the world is permanent;

  30. ਕਾਲ ਕੈ ਫਾਂਸਿ ਸਕਤ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਂਧਿਆ ॥੨॥

    it is like building a house under a tree considering its shade to be immovable,

  31. ਬਾਲੂ ਕਨਾਰਾ ਤਰੰਗ ਮੁਖਿ ਆਇਆ ॥

    but he is caught in the noose of death and Maya has aimed its arrow at him.

  32. ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਮੂੜਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

    (Life in the world is like) that sandy shore, which is being eroded by the waves,

  33. ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥

    but the fool still believes this place (stay in the world) to be permanent.

  34. ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੪॥੩੦॥੮੧॥

    One who, in the holy congregation meditates on the sovereign God,

  35. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਦੁਤੁਕੇ ੯ ॥

    O’ Nanak, he remains spiritually alive by singing the Praises of God.

  36. ਉਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੂ ਕਰਤੀ ਕੇਲ ॥

    O’ human body, accompanied by the soul, you engage in many frolics.

  37. ਉਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਲ ॥

    Because of the soul, you come in contact with everyone.

  38. ਉਨੑ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਊ ਲੋਰੈ ॥

    Because of the soul, everybody desires to meet you,

  39. ਓਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਊ ਮੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਜੋਰੈ ॥੧॥

    but without the soul nobody wants to look at you.

  40. ਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਕਹਾ ਸਮਾਏ ॥

    Detached from you, where the soul has gone?

  41. ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਤੁਹੀ ਦੁਹੇਰੀ ਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    O’ body, without the soul, you are useless.

  42. ਉਨੑ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੂ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਹਰਿ ॥

    In the soul’s presence, you are considered like a wise lady of the house.

  43. ਉਨੑ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੂ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਜਾਹਰਿ ॥

    You become known everywhere because of the soul.

  44. ਉਨੑ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੂ ਰਖੀ ਪਪੋਲਿ ॥

    You were cherished carefully when the soul was with you.

  45. ਓਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੂੰ ਛੁਟਕੀ ਰੋਲਿ ॥੨॥

    Without the soul, you are being wasted away like a deserted wife.

  46. ਉਨੑ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਹਤੁ ॥

    In the company of the soul, you are treated with respect and honor.

  47. ਉਨੑ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਾਕੁ ਜਗਤੁ ॥

    because of the soul, you have relationship with the world.

  48. ਉਨੑ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਥਾਟੀ ॥

    You are preserved in every way, when the soul is within you,

  49. ਓਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਮਾਟੀ ॥੩॥

    but without the soul, you are reduced to dust.

  50. ਓਹੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

    Detached from the body, the soul neither dies, nor is born.

  51. ਹੁਕਮੇ ਬਾਧਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

    Bound by God’s command, the soul performs its deed of entering and leaving the body.

  52. ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਥਾਪਿ ॥

    O Nanak, God unites the soul with the body and also separates them.

  53. ਅਪਨੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ॥੪॥੩੧॥੮੨॥

    God alone knows His creative nature.
