  1. ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਅਹਿ ਨੀਤ ॥

    Nanak Says, always sing the Praises of God.

  2. ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਚੀਤ ॥੪॥੧੯॥

    By doing so the mind becomes pure and honor is obtained both here and here after. ||4

  3. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:

  4. ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥

    O’ God, in Your possession are all the nine treasures of the world.

  5. ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰਕੁ ਰਖੈ ਨਿਦਾਨ ॥੧॥

    You fulfill the desires of all the beings and save them in the end.

  6. ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੋ ਪਿਆਰੋ ਤਾ ਕੈਸੀ ਭੂਖਾ ॥

    O’ God, If I have Your love, then I do not have any worldly desires.

  7. ਤੂੰ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਦੂਖਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    When You dwell within my mind, no misery can afflict me. ||1|| Pause||

  8. ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

    O’ God, whatever You do, is acceptable to me.

  9. ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਚੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਣੁ ॥੨॥

    O’ the eternal Master, eternal is Your command.

  10. ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥

    O’ God, when it pleases You, I sing Your praises.

  11. ਤੇਰੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਆਉ ॥੩॥

    In Your court, there is justice, forever and ever.

  12. ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵ ॥

    O’ my eternal Master-God, You are unfathomable and incomprehensible.

  13. ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਇਆ ਲਾਗਾ ਸੇਵ ॥੪॥੨੦॥

    O’ Nanak, one can engage in devotional worship only when inspired by You. ||4

  14. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:

  15. ਨਿਕਟਿ ਜੀਅ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੰਗਾ ॥

    God is always near at hand in the company of His beings.

  16. ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਰੂਪ ਅਰੁ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੧॥

    His creative power is pervading, in all forms and colors.

  17. ਕਰ੍ਹੈ ਨ ਝੁਰੈ ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਰੋਵਨਹਾਰਾ ॥

    The mind of that person never agonizes nor cries out in pain or fear, who develops this faith that our Master-God is imperishable, invisible, incomprehensible, and forever secure and safe.

  18. ਅਵਿਨਾਸੀ ਅਵਿਗਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

  19. ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਰੇ ਕਉ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ॥

    O’ God, Your humble devotee does not remain subservience to anyone, because You, the sovereign God protects his honor Yourself.

  20. ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਮੀਰਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਣਿ ॥੨॥

    His King preserves his honor. ||2||

  21. ਜੋ ਲਉਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਆ ਅਜਾਤਿ ॥

    The humble servant, whom God has released from the bonds of social status, that devotee does not feel jealous of anyone’s higher status.

  22. ਤਿਸੁ ਲਉਡੇ ਕਉ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਤਾਤਿ ॥੩॥

    - who can now hold him in bondage? ||3||

  23. ਵੇਮੁਹਤਾਜਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥

    God is not dependent upon anyone and He is free of all worries.

  24. ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਕਹਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਵਾਹੁ ॥੪॥੨੧॥

    O’ Nanak, recite praises of the supreme God. ||4

  25. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:

  26. ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਹੋਛੈ ਰਸਿ ਮਾਤਾ ॥

    Forsaking the sublime nectar of God’s Name, human being is engrossed in the worthless and perishable worldly pleasures.

  27. ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੧॥

    The wealth of Naam is present in one’s heart, but he runs out to find it.

  28. ਸੁਨੀ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਸਚੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਾਥਾ ॥

    He doesn't like to listen to the ambrosial divine words of God’s praises.

  29. ਰਾਰਿ ਕਰਤ ਝੂਠੀ ਲਗਿ ਗਾਥਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    But gladly enters into big arguments and contentions after listening to false scriptures. ||1|| Pause||

  30. ਵਜਹੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਾ ਸੇਵ ਬਿਰਾਨੀ ॥

    He takes his sustenance from God, but serves another.

  31. ਐਸੇ ਗੁਨਹ ਅਛਾਦਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ॥੨॥

    Such are the kind of sins in which the mortal is engrossed.

  32. ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲੂਕ ਜੋ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੰਗੀ ॥

    He tries to hide from God who is always his companion.

  33. ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਸੋ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੰਗੀ ॥੩॥

    He keeps begging the worldly wealth which is of no use in the end.

  34. ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥

    Nanak says, O’ the merciful God of the meek, please save human beings from these vices in whatever way it pleases You.

  35. ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੨੨॥

  36. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:

  37. ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਧਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

    God’s Name is the true wealth for life and soul.

  38. ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾਂ ਉਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਾਮੁ ॥੧॥

    This wealth is of use both here and hereafter.

  39. ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਵਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਥੋਰਾ ॥

    Without God's Name, all the worldly wealth is insufficient and useless.

  40. ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    It is only with the realizationof God that my mind is totally satiated. ||1|| Pause||

  41. ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਲਾਲ ॥

    The devotional worship through the Guru’s word is the most precious wealth.

  42. ਗਾਵਤ ਸੁਨਤ ਕਮਾਵਤ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੨॥

    By singing, listening and acting upon it, the mind remains delighted.

  43. ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

    The mind of that person remains attuned to God's Love., whom the true Guru, in his pleasure, blessed the gift of Naam.

  44. ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੂਠੈ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੩॥

    The True Guru, in His Pleasure, has given this gift. ||3||

  45. ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਦੀਨੑ ॥

    O’ Nanak, whom the Guru blessed with such a teaching, he saw the eternal God in each and every heart.

  46. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਚੀਨੑ ॥੪॥੨੩॥

  47. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:

  48. ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਭਰੇਪੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥

    All these plays and joyful scenes are established by the all pervading God, He Himself has embellished His creation with joyful scenes and plays.

  49. ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥

    He Himself embellishes His own works. ||1||

  50. ਪੂਰ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੀ ॥

    Perfect are the bounties of the Perfect God, His glory is fully pervading everywhere.

  51. ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਸੋਭ ਜਾ ਕੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

  52. ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਇ ॥

    He whose Name is the treasure of all virtues and singing whose praises people’s life become immaculate, that God Himself is the creator of the entire universe and none other.

  53. ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥

    He Himself is the Creator; there is no other. ||2||

  54. ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥

    All beings and creatures are under His control.

  55. ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭ ਕੈ ਸਾਥਿ ॥੩॥

    that God is pervading in all and is always with them.
