Ang 289

  1. ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

    and the sins of countless lives shall be destroyed.

  2. ਆਪਿ ਜਪਹੁ ਅਵਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵਹੁ ॥

    Meditate on God’s Name and inspire others to meditate as well.

  3. ਸੁਨਤ ਕਹਤ ਰਹਤ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥

    Higher spiritual state is achieved by listening and uttering Naam and by living a righteous life.

  4. ਸਾਰ ਭੂਤ ਸਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ॥

    God’s Name is the essence of all things, and everlasting.

  5. ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥੬॥

    O’ Nanak, keep singing praises of God in a state of peace and poise.

  6. ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਮੈਲੁ ॥

    By singing of His virtues, your filth of vices shall be washed off,

  7. ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਫੈਲੁ ॥

    and the all-consuming poison of ego will be eradicated.

  8. ਹੋਹਿ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਬਸੈ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

    You shall become worry free and you shall live in peace.

  9. ਸਾਸਿ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥

    Meditate on God’s Name with each and every breath.

  10. ਛਾਡਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਸਗਲੀ ਮਨਾ ॥

    O’ my mind, renounce all your cleverness,

  11. ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਧਨਾ ॥

    you shall receive the everlasting wealth of Naam in the holy congregation.

  12. ਹਰਿ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸੰਚਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥

    Amass the wealth of God’s Name and engage in this true deed.

  13. ਈਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥

    You shall obtain peace here and honor in God’s court.

  14. ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਦੇਖੁ ॥

    Behold the One permeating in all;

  15. ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੁ ॥੭॥

    Nanak says, the one who is predestined receives this blessing.

  16. ਏਕੋ ਜਪਿ ਏਕੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥

    Meditate only on the One and praise only that One.

  17. ਏਕੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਮਨ ਆਹਿ ॥

    Remember the One, and yearn for the One in your mind.

  18. ਏਕਸ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ਅਨੰਤ ॥

    Sing the endless Glorious Praises of the One.

  19. ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਜਾਪਿ ਏਕ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥

    With mind and body, meditate on the One God.

  20. ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਏਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ॥

    The One God Himself is the One and Only One.

  21. ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥

    The perfect God is pervading in all.

  22. ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ਏਕ ਤੇ ਭਏ ॥

    The many expanses of the creation have all come from the One.

  23. ਏਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਪਰਾਛਤ ਗਏ ॥

    Meditating on the One with loving devotion, all sins are removed.

  24. ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥

    The one whose mind and body is imbued with the love of One (God).

  25. ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੮॥੧੯॥

    O’ Nanak, by the Guru’s grace, he has realized the One.

  26. ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥

    I request for the most humble service of the Saints.

  27. ਫਿਰਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇਆ ਪਰਿਆ ਤਉ ਸਰਨਾਇ ॥

    Shalok: O’ God, after wandering through countless incarnations, I have come to seek Your refuge.

  28. ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਅਪਨੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

    O’ God, It is the humble prayer of Nanak, please bless me with Your worship.

  29. ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥

    O’ God. I may lovingly meditate on You with each and every breath.

  30. ਜਾਚਕ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਨੁ ॥

    Ashtapadee: O’ God, this humble devotee begs for the gift of Naam from You,

  31. ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

    please bestow mercy and bless me with Naam.

  32. ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਮਾਗਉ ਧੂਰਿ ॥

    I request for the most humble service of the Saints.

  33. ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥

    O’ Supreme God, please fulfill this yearning of mine.

  34. ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਉ ॥

    I may sing the virtues of God forever and ever.

  35. ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਉ ॥

    O’ God. I may lovingly meditate on You with each and every breath.

  36. ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

    May I be imbued with the love of Your immaculate Name,

  37. ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤਿ ॥

    and may I remember God with reverence each and every day.

  38. ਏਕ ਓਟ ਏਕੋ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥

    God’s Name is my only Shelter, my only Support.

  39. ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਰੁ ॥੧॥

    Nanak asks for the most sublime Name of God.

  40. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

    God’s glance of grace brings supreme bliss.

  41. ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਬਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਇ ॥

    But only a rare one receives the nectar of God’s Name.

  42. ਜਿਨ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੇ ॥

    Those who have partaken the Nectar of Naam are completely contented.

  43. ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਹੀ ਡੋਲਾਨੇ ॥

    They have become perfect persons, and do not waver in any situation.

  44. ਸੁਭਰ ਭਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

    They remain completely filled with the sweet delight of Love for God.

  45. ਉਪਜੈ ਚਾਉ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥

    Longing to unite with God wells up in them in the Company of the Holy.

  46. ਪਰੇ ਸਰਨਿ ਆਨ ਸਭ ਤਿਆਗਿ ॥

    Forsaking the support all others, they come to the refuge of God.

  47. ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਿ ॥

    Spiritually enlightened, they are tuned to God day and night.

  48. ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਪਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

    Most fortunate are those who have lovingly meditated on God.

  49. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥

    O’ Nanak, peace is received by being imbued with Naam.

  50. ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਭਈ ॥

    The mind’s desires of a devotee are fulfilled,

  51. ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮਤਿ ਲਈ ॥

    upon receiving the immaculate teachings from the True Guru.

  52. ਜਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੋਇਓ ਦਇਆਲੁ ॥

    God bestows mercy on His Humble servant,

  53. ਸੇਵਕੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥

    and keeps His devotee eternally happy.

  54. ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਨੁ ਭਇਆ ॥

    Cutting all bonds of Maya, the devotee is liberated,

  55. ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੂਖੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ॥

    the pain of the cycle of birth and death and doubt is gone.

  56. ਇਛ ਪੁਨੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਸਭ ਪੂਰੀ ॥

    The devotee’s desire for liberation is satisfied,

  57. ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਦ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਜੂਰੀ ॥

    his devotion is fully rewarded, he feels God’s presence everywhere and within himself forever.

  58. ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਲੀਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

    The devotee is united with God to whom he belongs,

  59. ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥

    O’ Nanak, by devotional worship, the devotee stays absorbed in Naam.

  60. ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਜਿ ਘਾਲ ਨ ਭਾਨੈ ॥

    Why forget Him, who does not let go waste the efforts of mortals?

  61. ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਜਿ ਕੀਆ ਜਾਨੈ ॥

    Why forget Him, who acknowledges what we do?
