Ang 282

  1. ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਸਗਲ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਿ ॥

    He is all by himself, and pervades in all.

  2. ਅਨਿਕ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਰਚਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ॥

    In countless ways, He creates and destroys the universe.

  3. ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਖੰਡ ॥

    He is Imperishable; and nothing of Him perishes.

  4. ਧਾਰਣ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ॥

    He Himself is planning and supporting the universe.

  5. ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥

    Incomprehensible and unfathomable is the Glory of God.

  6. ਆਪਿ ਜਪਾਏ ਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਪ ॥੬॥

    O Nanak, as He inspires, so do we meditate on Him.

  7. ਜਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੁ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤ ॥

    Those who have realized God are glorious.

  8. ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਉਧਰੈ ਤਿਨ ਮੰਤ ॥

    Their teachings save the entire world from the vices.

  9. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰਨ ॥

    God’s devotees are able to redeem everybody from vices.

  10. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਸਾਰਨ ॥

    God’s servants are capable of eliminating sorrows of everybody.

  11. ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥

    The Merciful God Himself unites them with Him.

  12. ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਜਪਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥

    By lovingly meditating on the Guru’s Word, they feel delighted.

  13. ਉਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋਈ ਲਾਗੈ ॥

    He alone gets to serve those devotees of God,

  14. ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਡਭਾਗੈ ॥

    Who has good fortune and is blessed by You.

  15. ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥

    By lovingly meditating on God’s Name, the devotees obtain peace.

  16. ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਉ ਊਤਮ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੭॥

    O’ Nanak, respect those persons as the most noble.

  17. ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

    Whatever a devotee does, is out of love for God,

  18. ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਬਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ॥

    and he always remains in the presence of God.

  19. ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ ॥

    Whatever happens intuitively, he accepts it as God’s will

  20. ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋਇ ॥

    and acknowledges Him as the Creator.

  21. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਜਨ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨਾ ॥

    The devotees gladly accept whatever God does,

  22. ਜੈਸਾ ਸਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਨਾ ॥

    because He appears to them just as He is.

  23. ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥

    From whom they are born, they stay immersed in Him.

  24. ਓਇ ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਉਨਹੂ ਬਨਿ ਆਏ ॥

    They become the treasure of peace

  25. ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

    and they alone are worthy of this status.

  26. ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਨੁ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੮॥੧੪॥

    God gives honor to Himself by honoring the devotees. O’ Nanak, deem God and the devotee as one and the same. ||8

  27. ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥

    Shalok:

  28. ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਨਨਹਾਰ ॥

    God is totally imbued with all powers; He is the Knower of our pains and sorrows.

  29. ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਉਧਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੧॥

    O’ Nanak, we should dedicate ourself to the Almighty God, meditation on whom saves us from vices.

  30. ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥

    Ashtapadee:

  31. ਟੂਟੀ ਗਾਢਨਹਾਰ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ॥

    God Himself is capable of reuniting our alienated heart with Him.

  32. ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥

    He Himself looks after all beings.

  33. ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

    God has the care of all in His mind.

  34. ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

    No one is turned away from Him.

  35. ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪਿ ॥

    O’ my mind, always lovingly remember God.

  36. ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥

    The Imperishable God is all in all.

  37. ਆਪਨ ਕੀਆ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

    By one’s own actions, nothing is accomplished,

  38. ਜੇ ਸਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਲੋਚੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

    even though the mortal may wish it so, hundreds of times.

  39. ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਾਮ ॥

    Besides Him, nothing else is of real use to you.

  40. ਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਏਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥

    O’ Nanak, you would be saved only by meditating on God’s Name.

  41. ਰੂਪਵੰਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੋਹੈ ॥

    One who is good-looking should not be vain;

  42. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਗਲ ਘਟ ਸੋਹੈ ॥

    because God’s light is shining in everyone.

  43. ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਹੋਇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਗਰਬੈ ॥

    Why should anyone be arrogant of being rich?

  44. ਜਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਦੀਆ ਦਰਬੈ ॥

    When all riches are His gifts.

  45. ਅਤਿ ਸੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਕੋਊ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥

    If one calls oneself extremely brave,

  46. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਕਲਾ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਹ ਧਾਵੈ ॥

    he should realize that without the gift of God’s Power, what can he do?

  47. ਜੇ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੈ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥

    One who gives charity and then brags about becoming a benefactor,

  48. ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਨਹਾਰੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥

    such fool should recognize that God is the only benefactor of all.

  49. ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਤੂਟੈ ਹਉ ਰੋਗੁ ॥

    By the Guru’s Grace, whose malady of ego is cured,

  50. ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਰੋਗੁ ॥੨॥

    O’ Nanak, that person is forever spiritually healthy.

  51. ਜਿਉ ਮੰਦਰ ਕਉ ਥਾਮੈ ਥੰਮਨੁ ॥

    just as a pillar supports the roof of a house,

  52. ਤਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਅਸਥੰਮਨੁ ॥

    similarly the Guru’s word provides support to the mind.

  53. ਜਿਉ ਪਾਖਾਣੁ ਨਾਵ ਚੜਿ ਤਰੈ ॥

    Just as a stone placed in a boat crosses over the river,

  54. ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਲਗਤੁ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥

    Similarly by closely following the Guru’s teachings eve a stone hearted mortal crosses over the worldly ocea of vices.

  55. ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਦੀਪਕ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥

    Just as darkness gets illuminated by the lamp,

  56. ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਗਾਸੁ ॥

    similarly the mind gets delighted, beholding the Guru’s sight.

  57. ਜਿਉ ਮਹਾ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਤਿਉ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੈ ॥

    Just as someone finds a path through the great wilderness,

  58. ਤਿਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਛਉ ਧੂਰਿ ॥

    Similarly divine light becomes manifest in the company of the Saints.

  59. ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥੩॥

    I seek the humble service of those Saints;

  60. ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਈਐ ॥

    O’ God, please fulfill this desire of Nanak
