Ang 257

  1. ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਿਟੈ ਜਮ ਪੰਥ ਕੀ ਜਾਸੁ ਬਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਉ ॥

    In whose heart dwells the Name of God, his fear of death ends.

  2. ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਠਾਉ ॥

    He attains supreme spiritual state, his intellect is enlightened with divine knowledge and he remains focused on the meditation on God.

  3. ਤਾਹੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਧਨੁ ਚਲੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਜੋਬਨ ਨਹ ਰਾਜ ॥

    Wealth, home, youth or power would not accompany you in the end.

  4. ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹਹੁ ਇਹੈ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਕਾਜ ॥

    In the holy congregation meditate on Naam, which alone would be of use to you in the end.

  5. ਤਾਤਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਜਉ ਤਾਪ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਆਪ ॥

    When God Himself eradicates our malady of ego then no sorrow afflicts us.

  6. ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮਹਿ ਆਪਹਿ ਮਾਈ ਬਾਪ ॥੩੨॥

    O’ Nanak, God Himself cherishes us like our mother and father.

  7. ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥

    Shalok:

  8. ਥਾਕੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਘਾਲਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲਾਥ ॥

    Shalok: People are exhausted struggling in all sorts of ways but their yearning for Maya is not satiated.

  9. ਸੰਚਿ ਸੰਚਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਨ ਸਾਥ ॥੧॥

    O’ Nanak, the cynics spiritually die amassing more and more worldly wealth but the Maya does not go with them in the end.

  10. ਪਉੜੀ ॥

    Pauree:

  11. ਥਥਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੋਊ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਇ ਪਸਾਰਹੁ ਪਾਵ ॥

    Thatha, an alphabet: No one is going to stay in this world forever.

  12. ਅਨਿਕ ਬੰਚ ਬਲ ਛਲ ਕਰਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਏਕ ਉਪਾਵ ॥

    Why do you keep expanding your worldly possessions?

  13. ਥੈਲੀ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਥਾਕਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥

    You commit so many fraudulent and deceitful actions while chasing Maya.

  14. ਮਨ ਕੈ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਅੰਤੇ ਅਉਸਰ ਬਾਰ ॥

    O’ fool, you wear down working hard for the sake of worldly wealth.

  15. ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਸੰਤਹ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਲੇਹੁ ॥

    But in the end this worldly wealth shall be of no use to your soul.

  16. ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਦ ਏਕ ਸਿਉ ਇਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਸਨੇਹੁ ॥

    Attain spiritual peace by meditating on God through the Guru’s teachings.

  17. ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨੋ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਏਕੈ ਹਾਥ ॥

    Always embrace love for God, this is the only true love!

  18. ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਅਨਾਥ ॥੩੩॥

    O’ God, You are the doer, the cause of causes and everything is under Your command.

  19. ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥

    O’ Nanak, helpless beings are engaged in whatever task You assign them. |33|

  20. ਦਾਸਹ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰ ॥

    Shalok:

  21. ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸ ਅਧਾਰ ॥੧॥

    Shalok: The devotees of God has realized that God is the bestower of everything.

  22. ਪਉੜੀ ॥

    O’ Nanak, depending only on the support of God they meditate on Him with each and every breath.

  23. ਦਦਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਕਉ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰ ॥

    Pauree:

  24. ਦੇਂਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਅਗਨਤ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥

    Pauree: Dada, an alphabet: God is the only one benefactor, who gives to all.

  25. ਦੈਨਹਾਰੁ ਸਦ ਜੀਵਨਹਾਰਾ ॥

    His countless treasures are always full, no shortage ever occurs while He gives.

  26. ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਿਉ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਾ ॥

    The Great Giver is there forever.

  27. ਦੋਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਮੀਤਾ ॥

    O’ my foolish mind, why have you forgotten Him?

  28. ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਬੰਧੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਤਾ ॥

    O’ my friend, no one can be blamed for forsaking God, because God has created the barrier of emotional attachment to Maya which makes one to forsake God.

  29. ਦਰਦ ਨਿਵਾਰਹਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਆਪੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ॥੩੪॥

    Those, whose pain from affliction to Maya is removed by God Himself.

  30. ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥

    O’ Nanak, those Guru’s follower are liberated from the craving for Maya.

  31. ਧਰ ਜੀਅਰੇ ਇਕ ਟੇਕ ਤੂ ਲਾਹਿ ਬਿਡਾਨੀ ਆਸ ॥

    Shalok:

  32. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੧॥

    Shalok: O my soul, give up your hopes in others and rely on the support of God alone.

  33. ਪਉੜੀ ॥

    O Nanak, every task is accomplished successfully by meditating on Naam.

  34. ਧਧਾ ਧਾਵਤ ਤਉ ਮਿਟੈ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਾਸੁ ॥

    Pauree:

  35. ਧੁਰ ਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਤਉ ਹੋਇ ਮਨਹਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥

    Pauree: Dhadha, an alphabet: One’s wanderings after worldly wealth stops only when one is blessed with the holy congregation.

  36. ਧਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਤੇਊ ਸਚ ਸਾਹਾ ॥

    O’ God, on whom You bestow Your grace, his mind is enlightened with the divine knowledge and his wandering after Maya ends.

  37. ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਸਾਹਾ ॥

    Those who have the wealth of Naam are truly wealthy, and they deal only in the wealth of Naam.

  38. ਧੀਰਜੁ ਜਸੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਤਿਹ ਬਨਿਆ ॥

    Patience, glory and honor come to those, who listen to God’s Name with full concentration.

  39. ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਜਿਹ ਸੁਨਿਆ ॥

    Those Guru’s followers in whose heart enshrines the Name of God.

  40. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਹ ਘਟਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

    O Nanak, they receive honor here and hereafter.

  41. ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਜਨ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੩੫॥

    Shalok:

  42. ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥

    O Nanak, those who have lovingly meditated on Naam while engaged in their daily chores, they dwell in the holy congregation and by following the teachings from the Perfect Guru, they are not afflicted by the intense sufferings

  43. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੁ ਜਪਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

    Shalok: O Nanak, those who have lovingly meditated on Naam while engaged in their daily chores, they dwell in the holy congregation and by following the teachings from the Perfect Guru, they are not afflicted by the intense sufferings

  44. ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਨਰਕੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ॥੧॥

    Nanna, an alphabet: Those are not afflicted by the intense suffering, in whose heart and body dwells Naam.

  45. ਪਉੜੀ ॥

    Those Guru’s followers who meditate on the treasure of Naam, are not ruined in the entanglements of poisonous worldly wealth.

  46. ਨੰਨਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਪਰਹਿ ਤੇ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਸਾਹੀ ॥

    Pauree: Nanna, an alphabet: Those are not afflicted by the intense suffering, in whose heart and body dwells Naam.

  47. ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋ ਜਪਤੇ ॥

    Those Guru’s followers who meditate on the treasure of Naam, are not ruined in the entanglements of poisonous worldly wealth.

  48. ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਨਾ ਓਇ ਖਪਤੇ ॥

    Maya cannot cause any hurdle in the life of those, whom the Guru has given the Mantra of Naam.

  49. ਨੰਨਾਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਹੋਤਾ ਤਾ ਕਹੁ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਜਾ ਕਹੁ ॥

    Those who have been given the Mantra of the Naam by the Guru, shall not be turned away.
