Ang 211

  1. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਸੇ ਭਲੇ ॥

    Blessed are the humble devotees of God.

  2. ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲੇ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੪੧॥

    O’ Nanak, they are honored in God’s court.

  3. ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:

  4. ਜੀਅਰੇ ਓਲੑਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ॥

    O’ my soul, Naam is your only real strength here and hereafter.

  5. ਅਵਰੁ ਜਿ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨੋ ਤਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਭਉ ਹੈ ਜਾਮ ਕਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    Doing any thing other than meditation on Naam, carries the fear of spiritual death.

  6. ਅਵਰ ਜਤਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

    God is not realized by any effort other than meditation on Naam.

  7. ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥

    It is only by great fortune that one meditates on God.

  8. ਲਾਖ ਹਿਕਮਤੀ ਜਾਨੀਐ ॥

    One may become known in this world through great wisdom,

  9. ਆਗੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਨੀਐ ॥੨॥

    but hereafter he is not given the slightest advantage.

  10. ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਨੇ ॥ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬਾਲੂ ਨੀਰਿ ਬਹਾਵਨੇ ॥੩॥

    Performing good deeds with self-conceit, is futile. It is like building castles in the sand.

  11. ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥

    By the grace of the merciful God, O’ Nanak, one receives Naam in the holy congregation.

  12. ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੪੨॥

    Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:

  13. ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    With complete devotion I dedicate myself to God a million times over.

  14. ਬਾਰਨੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਨੈ ਲਖ ਬਰੀਆ ॥

    With complete devotion I dedicate myself to God a million times over.

  15. ਨਾਮੋ ਹੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    God’s Name alone is the strength of the spiritual life.

  16. ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਤੁਹੀ ਏਕ ॥

    You alone are the Doer and the Cause of causes.

  17. ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੀ ਤੁਹੀ ਟੇਕ ॥੧॥

    You alone are the support of all beings and creatures.

  18. ਰਾਜ ਜੋਬਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੂੰ ਧਨੀ ॥ ਤੂੰ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਤੂੰ ਸਰਗੁਨੀ ॥੨॥

    O’ God, You are the power behind a person’s authority and his youth. You are without any atributes and yet You possess all the modes of Maya.

  19. ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਤੁਮ ਰਖੇ ॥

    Here and hereafter You are the savior of all,

  20. ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਕੋ ਲਖੇ ॥੩॥

    but a rare person understands this secret by the Guru’s grace.

  21. ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਜਾਨੁ ॥

    O’ God, You are wise and the inner-knower of all hearts.

  22. ਨਾਨਕ ਤਕੀਆ ਤੁਹੀ ਤਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੪੩॥

    You alone are Nanak’s support and strength.

  23. ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    One ought to meditate on God’s Name for ever with loving devotion.

  24. ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ॥

    One ought to meditate on God’s Name for ever with loving devotion.

  25. ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਭਉ ਸਾਧੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    God is realized by being in the holy congregation and complete control of doubt, emotional attachment and fear is achieved.

  26. ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਭਨੇ ॥

    All the holy books like Vedas, Puranas, and Simritis proclaim that the saints are known to be at the highest spiritual status.

  27. ਸਭ ਊਚ ਬਿਰਾਜਿਤ ਜਨ ਸੁਨੇ ॥੧॥

    but the devotees of God have been rendered fearless.

  28. ਸਗਲ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਭੈ ਭੀਤ ਚੀਨ ॥

    All hearts are known to be stricken with awe and fear,

  29. ਰਾਮ ਸੇਵਕ ਭੈ ਰਹਤ ਕੀਨ ॥੨॥

    but the devotees of God have been rendered fearless.

  30. ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੋਨਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ॥

    People wander through millions of existences,

  31. ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਲੋਕ ਨਹੀ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ॥੩॥

    but God’s devotees don’t endure the rounds of birth and death.

  32. ਬਲ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਹਉਮੈ ਰਹੀ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਹੀ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੪੪॥

    They lose their ego and do not depend on their power or wisdom, as they have taken the refuge of God-Guru, O’ Nanak.

  33. ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    We ought to always remember God with every breath.

  34. ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈਐ ॥

    O’ my mind, let us sing the praises of God.

  35. ਨੀਤ ਨੀਤ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    We ought to always remember God with every breath.

  36. ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ॥

    In the company of saints, God comes to dwell in the heart

  37. ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਅਨੇਰਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਨਸੈ ॥੧॥

    and all the misery, pain, ignorance and cynicism departs.

  38. ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੀਐ ॥ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਦੂਖਿ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੀਐ ॥੨॥

    It is only through the Guru’s grace that one meditates on God and then he is not afflicted with any sorrow.

  39. ਜਾ ਕਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦੇ ॥

    The one upon whom the Guru bestows the mantra of God’s Name,

  40. ਸੋ ਉਬਰਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਤੇ ॥੩॥

    is saved from the greed of worldly riches and power.

  41. ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਇਆ ਕਰਿ ॥

    Nanak prays, ”O’ God, have mercy on me”,

  42. ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਵਾਸੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੪੫॥

    so that God’s Name dwells in my mind and body.

  43. ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    On reciting God’s Name with our tongue, immense bliss is received here

  44. ਰਸਨਾ ਜਪੀਐ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮ ॥

    On reciting God’s Name with our tongue,

  45. ਈਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਘਨਾ ਆਗੈ ਜੀਅ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    immense bliss is received here and Naam proves useful hereafter.

  46. ਕਟੀਐ ਤੇਰਾ ਅਹੰ ਰੋਗੁ ॥

    The disease of your ego is eradicated,

  47. ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੧॥

    and by the Guru’s grace you have a good life and receive spiritual bliss.

  48. ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥

    One who tastes the nectar of Naam,

  49. ਤਾ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲਾਥੀਆ ॥੨॥

    all his cravings for worldly wealth are quenched.

  50. ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

    One who has realized God, the treasure of peace,

  51. ਸੋ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਕਤ ਹੀ ਧਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

    does not wander elsewhere.

  52. ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥

    By the Guru, one who is blessed with God’s Name,

  53. ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਗਇਆ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੪੬॥

    O’ Nanak, all his fears vanish.
