  1. ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਮਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਥਿਧਾਈ ॥

    The human mind is smeared with the ‘greasy dirt’ of egotistical pride.

  2. ਸਾਧ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਸੁਧ ਮੰਜਾਈ ॥੧॥

    With the teachings of the saints, it is scrubbed clean.

  3. ਅਨਿਕ ਜਲਾ ਜੇ ਧੋਵੈ ਦੇਹੀ ॥

    The body may be washed with loads of water, and yet the filth of ego is not removed and mind does not become clean.

  4. ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਸੁਧੁ ਨ ਤੇਹੀ ॥੨॥

    One who meets the ever merciful true Guru, casts off the fear of death by always meditating on God‘s Name.

  5. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸਦਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥

    Meditation on God’s Name is the only true way of obtaining freedom from vices and enjoying spiritual bliss. O’ Nanak, sing His glorious praises with loving devotion. ||4|| 100

  6. ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਭਉ ਕਾਲ ॥੩॥

    O’ Nanak, sing His glorious praises with loving devotion.

  7. ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭੁਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥

    God’s humble devotees attain the sublime status of spiritual life, by meeting whom one obtains enlightenment for the soul.

  8. ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥੪॥੧੦੦॥੧੬੯॥

    O’ my mind, with full devotion listen to God’s praises, and you shall obtain peace in God’s court.

  9. ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:

  10. ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦਵੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ॥

    God’s humble devotees attain the sublime status of spiritual life, by meeting whom one obtains enlightenment for the soul.

  11. ਜਿਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਤਮ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥

    The Guru-God has blessed me with peace and tranquility, O’ my brother, all my sorrows and sins have vanished.

  12. ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਸੁਨਿ ਮਨ ਕਾਨੀ ॥

    O’ my mind, with full devotion listen to God’s praises, and you shall obtain peace in God’s court. ||1|| Pause||

  13. ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    The one who contemplates the virtues of the unfathomable supreme God, in the company of the saints, swims across the world-ocean of vices.

  14. ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਗੋਪਾਲੁ ॥

    At all times, we should lovingly meditate on God. O’ Nanak, the mind remains delighted by realizing His presence everywhere. ||2|| 101

  15. ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥੨॥੧੦੧॥੧੭੦॥

    I pray that I keep meditating on my God in my thoughts, words, and deeds.

  16. ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:

  17. ਸਾਂਤਿ ਭਈ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿਦਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

    The Guru-God has blessed me with peace and tranquility, O’ my brother, all my sorrows and sins have vanished. ||1|| Pause||

  18. ਤਾਪ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    O’ God, one whom you illuminate with the divine wisdom, by your grace all his afflictions vanish.

  19. ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਰਸਨ ਬਖਾਨ ॥

    The one who always utters God’s Name, all his afflictions vanish and peace prevails.

  20. ਬਿਨਸੇ ਰੋਗ ਭਏ ਕਲਿਆਨ ॥੧॥

    O’ God, blessed is the forehead that bows before You and blessed are the eyes which see You everywhere.

  21. ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਣ ਅਗਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥

    The one who contemplates the virtues of the unfathomable supreme God, in the company of the saints, swims across the world-ocean of vices.

  22. ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਮਿ ਹੈ ਨਿਸਤਾਰ ॥੨॥

    Without meditating on God’s Name, how can we attain peace?

  23. ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤ ॥

    Sing the glorious praises of God each and every day; by doing so all afflictions vanish and God’s devotees remain free from vices.

  24. ਗਈ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਨ ਮੀਤ ॥੩॥

    We should dedicate ourselves to those, O’ Nanak, who meditate on the immaculate God.

  25. ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਧਿਆਈ ॥

    I pray that I keep meditating on my God in my thoughts, words, and deeds. O’ God, Your humble devotee Nanak has come to Your refuge. ||4|| 102

  26. ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੦੨॥੧੭੧॥

    You are always aware of me and protect me in all situations.

  27. ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:

  28. ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਕੀਆ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥

    O’ the divine Guru, one whom You illuminate with the divine wisdom, his doubts get dispelled and his meditation of God becomes successful. ||1|| Pause||

  29. ਭਰਮ ਗਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਈ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    Therefore at all times, my mind lovingly meditates on Him.

  30. ਸੀਤਲਾ ਤੇ ਰਖਿਆ ਬਿਹਾਰੀ ॥

    O’ God, one whom you illuminate with the divine wisdom, by your grace all his afflictions vanish. O’ Nanak, only the one who meditates on God’s Name, lives spiritually, as he keeps partaking the ambrosial nectar of God’s Name in the company of the saints. ||2|| 103

  31. ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥

    God Himself is the benefactor and Himself is the Cherisher of all beings.

  32. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਸੋ ਜੀਵੈ ॥

    O’ Nanak, always enshrine God’s Name in your heart.

  33. ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ॥੨॥੧੦੩॥੧੭੨॥

    One to whom the perfect true Guru becomes merciful, the eternal God dwells in his heart forever.

  34. ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:

  35. ਧਨੁ ਓਹੁ ਮਸਤਕੁ ਧਨੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਨੇਤ ॥

    O’ God, blessed is the forehead that bows before You and blessed are the eyes which see You everywhere. Blessed are the devotees who love You sincerely.

  36. ਧਨੁ ਓਇ ਭਗਤ ਜਿਨ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੇਤ ॥੧॥

    blessed are those devotees who are in love with You. ||1||

  37. ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਲਹੀਐ ॥

    Without meditating on God’s Name, how can we attain peace? Therefore, we should recite the Name of God and sing His praises. ||1|| Pause||

  38. ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਸੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    With your tongue, chant the Praises of the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

  39. ਤਿਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥

    We should dedicate ourselves to those, O’ Nanak, who meditate on the immaculate God. ||2|| 104

  40. ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ॥੨॥੧੦੪॥੧੭੩॥

    who meditate on the Lord of Nirvaanaa. ||2||104||173||

  41. ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

    Raag Gauree, Fifth Guru:

  42. ਤੂੰਹੈ ਮਸਲਤਿ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

    O’ God, You are my advisor and You are always with me. You are always aware of me and protect me in all situations.

  43. ਤੂਹੈ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧॥

    You preserve, protect and care for me. ||1||

  44. ਐਸਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਨੀ ਸਹਾਈ ॥

    God is such a supporter here and hereafter, O’ my brother, that He protects the honor of His devotee. ||1|| Pause||

  45. ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

    He protects the honor of His slave, O my Sibling of Destiny. ||1||Pause||

  46. ਆਗੈ ਆਪਿ ਇਹੁ ਥਾਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ॥

    God, who controls this world is incharge of the next world as well. Therefore at all times, my mind lovingly meditates on Him.

  47. ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਉ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੨॥

    Twenty-four hours a day, O my mind, chant and meditate on the Lord. ||2||

  48. ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥

    One to whom You issue Your Royal Command, receives the eternal stamp of Your approval and honor in Your court.

  49. ਜਾ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥

    the Lord Himself issues His Royal Command. ||3||

  50. ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ॥

    God Himself is the benefactor and Himself is the Cherisher of all beings. O’ Nanak, always enshrine God’s Name in your heart. ||4|| 105

  51. ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੪॥੧੦੫॥੧੭੪॥

    Continually, continuously, O Nanak, dwell upon the Name of the Lord. ||4||105||174||

  53. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭਇਆ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ॥

    One to whom the perfect true Guru becomes merciful, the eternal God dwells in his heart forever.

  54. ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਪਾਲੁ ॥੧॥

    the Lord of the World abides in the heart forever. ||1||

  55. ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵਤ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

    By lovingly meditating on God’s Name, he attains peace;
